Rainbow moonstone is white or clear, and at times has a pearl-like color. The rainbow moonstone has natural white inclusions with flashes of red, gold, blue, and green, hence it's name. Tiny albite crystals within the stone provide a shimmering glow known as adularescence.
Rainbow moonstone has been mined in India, Burma, Sri Lanka, and the United States. Various other moonstone gemstones can also be found in Mexico, Tanzania, Madagascar, and Germany in colors such as grey, green, yellow, blue, and pink/peach. Moonstone is the birthstone of June. |
