Also known as Andean opal, blue opal, and green opal, Peruvian Blue Opal is a relatively rare green to aqua-blue translucent opal found in the Andes mountains in Peru. While Peruvian Opals do not have the "play of color" that one thinks of with other opals, it does have an opal type luminescence. Mined as thick veins in host rock, fine quality Peruvian opal with no matrix (inclusions) is very rare and expensive. Pink Opal is a beautiful pink, translucent to opaque variety of Opal that is sometimes referred to as Angelskin Opal, Peppermint Candy Stone, Andean Opal, Gem Silica or Jelly Opal because of the jelly-like appearance. Legend says that Peruvian Blue Opal takes the tension out of communication and helps ideas flow freely. Pink Opal is a calming stone often used to help heal inner turmoil relating to problems in relationships. Both should be cared for like any fine opal - away from light and heat. |
