Fluorite (also called fluorspar) is a mineral composed of calcium fluoride. It is a common mineral often found in deposits of granites and other igneous rocks and is known for it's variety of colors. While it's purples rival that of amethyst, it's blues, greens and yellows are just as spectacular. Fluorite can found as a singular color or with many colors arranged in bands.
Fluorite is frequently fluorescent and, like its normal light colors, its fluorescent colors are extremely variable. Typically it fluoresces blue but other fluorescent colors include yellow, green, red, white and purple. Fluorite is the second most popular mineral for collectors in the world, the first being quartz. Fluorite occurs all over the world from Brazil, Canada, England, Morrocco, Germany, Spain, China, and Mexico to many areas of the USA. |
