The word Drusy means "covered by a large number of minute crystals". In the jewelry trade, stone material is cut to highlight mother nature's artwork and expose the Drusy in attractive arrangements. Having often been misspelled as Druzy, Druse, or Druzie(s) they all refer to the same thing - stones that have the appearance and sparkle of being coated in sugar crystals.
Drusies were formed in crevices within layers of rock millions of years ago. When molten rock was forced rapidly to the surface, the resulting heat and pressure created gasses which led to the formation of crevices within the rock. Later, when mineral rich ground water moved thru these crevices, new minerals were left behind. As cooling occured, the crystallization of minerals were formed resulting in what we now call drusies.
