Blue topaz is a very popular gemstone but this color is rarely found in nature. Gem quality topaz most commonly occurs in nature as a colorless crystal. To produce blue topaz, clear topaz is given commonly accepted treatments such as irradiation and heat. The most desirable blue topaz stones have a color that resembles aquamarine with other more intense blues such as Swiss Blue Topaz and London Blue Topaz.
Topaz is mined in Brazil, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Russia and is the Birthstone for the month of November. |
